Jinshan ( Chinese  金山區 , Pinyin Jīnshān Qū , Pe̍h-ōe-jī Kim-san Khu ) is a district on the northern coast of the city of New Taipei in the north of the island of Taiwan , Republic of China .

location

Jinshan lies between the neighboring districts of Shimen in the northwest and Wanli in the southeast. To the west, Jinshan adjoins the Sanzhi district , to the southwest and south to the Beitou and Shilin districts of Taipei City , and to the northeast to the East China Sea .

In Jinshan, the headquarters is Buddhist organization Dharma Drum Mountain (English: Dharma Drum Mountain (DDM) ), with monasteries and educational institutions such as the Dharma Drum Sangha University and the Dharma Drum College .

history

The area of present-day Jinshan was settled by indigenous people of the Ketagalan tribe before the arrival of Chinese immigrants . Due to the largely hilly terrain and only partially suitable for agriculture, as well as the location by the sea, fishing was the main industry in earlier times. During the Japanese rule over Taiwan , Jinshan developed into a popular excursion destination in the greater Taipei area as early as the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to its beautiful landscape and thermal springs .

tourism

Sights in the district include the beautifully designed Jianbaoshan private cemetery , which houses the grave of the Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng , and the Ju Ming Museum , which is dedicated to the work of the sculptor Ju Ming . Other attractions for visitors are the public Huangang-shared (磺港社區公共浴池), a thermal spring near the fishing port and the fish path , a native of ancient footpath between Jinshan and Shilin , which is a popular hiking trail through the hills and valleys today.
