Overview and history
Due to the green location in northern Taipei, Shilin is mainly a residential area. Since it is also home to many foreign schools, there are a large number of expats , mainly from Europe , the USA and Japan .
In earlier times the district was called Pattsiran , which means "hot spring" in the language of the Ketagalan , the former indigenous people in the area. This name was later given the name Shilin by the Chinese immigrants through intermediate stages . Under the Japanese rule, Shilin belonged to Shichisei County (Chinese Qixing ) from 1920 . After it was taken over by the Republic of China in 1945, Shilin was given the status of a township ( zhèn ) in Taipei County (today's New Taipei City). In July 1968, Shilin was incorporated into Taipei City along with the other villages of Beitou, Nangang, Jingmei, and Muzha.
