history

In the years of economic development after the war, there was a great need for skilled economists in Taiwan. In the fall of 1956, the later founder Pao Teh-Ming ( 包 begann ) began preparing for the establishment of a business school . Her husband Lee Ying-Chao helped found it. The aim of the institution was to enable women in particular to enter higher education in the field of business. On March 25, 1957, the facility was officially recognized as the Ming Chuan Women's Business School ( 銘傳 女子 商業 專科學校 ) by the Ministry of Education. The original plan was to establish it in Danshui . However, after the founder Pao took over the management of an orphanage in the later Shilin District of Taipei, which was named after the former Qing governor of Taiwan Liu Ming-chuan ( 劉銘傳 ), the new economic training institution was transferred to this place and received the name of the previous governor. In the first five years after it was founded, the Ming Chuan Business School had to move twice before moving to its current location in 1962. Initially, the facility also had to struggle with funding problems. The three-year courses and teaching units initially offered included the subjects of banking and insurance, accounting and statistics, as well as business administration and international trade. Gradually the institution expanded, had more and more graduates and added new subjects (e.g. business mathematics, etc.) to the curriculum. On July 16, 1990, the institution received official recognition as a "higher education institution" ( senior college , 銘傳 管理 學院 ) by the Ministry of Education.

In 1993 the college opened a second campus in Taoyuan, Guishan District . The associated site had already been acquired in 1967 with foresight. In 1995, a third campus was opened in Jinsha Township on Kinmen . In 1997, Ming Chuan Business School was officially recognized as a university by the Ministry of Education. From 2004, special master’s programs were also offered to residents of the Matsu Islands .

On November 18, 2010, the university was accredited by the US Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) based in Philadelphia ( Pennsylvania , USA) . According to the university's own information, it was the first US-accredited university in Asia. In 2016, the MSCHE was re-accredited for a period of 10 years.
