Wenshan ( Chinese 文 山區 , Pinyin Wénshān Qū , Pe̍h-ōe-jī Bûn-san Khu ) is the southernmost district of the Taiwanese capital Taipei .
location
As the southernmost district of Taipei, Wenshan borders the city of New Taipei in the west, south and east and the neighboring districts of Zhongzheng , Da'an , Xinyi and Nangang in the north . Wenshan is located south of the Taipei Basin, where the actual metropolis is located, and is surrounded by mountains and hills. The district is connected to the Taipei subway network.
History and meaning
The district consists of the places Jingmei in the west and Muzha in the east, which were incorporated into Taipei in 1968 as previously independent communities. In 1990 they merged into what is now Wenshan County. In the past, the Jingmei and Muzha area was mainly used for agriculture, while the surrounding heights have become an important tea-growing area, especially since the Japanese colonial era . More recently, residential complexes have been built in Wenshan in the upper price range, which are coveted because of the relatively green surroundings.
Wenshan-Muzha is home to the extensive campus of Chengchi National University and Taipei Zoo , one of the most popular destinations in the greater Taipei area. A gondola takes you from the zoo to the hilltop village of Maokong , which is also a popular excursion destination as a place of tea culture and due to the beautiful view of Taipei.
Wenshan is home to the official residence of the Taipei Mayor.
