The pubovesicalis muscle ("pubic bone-urinary bladder muscle") is a striated muscle of the pelvic cavity . It arises at the neck of the bladder and attaches a short tendon to the lower edge of the pubic symphysis . In the anatomical literature, the muscle is sometimes also referred to as a ligament ( ligamentum pubovesicale ), although it already shows clear muscle strands in the fetus . In men, the muscle runs along the abdominal side of the prostate . The muscle encircles the bladder neck in the shape of an inverted "V" and stabilizes its position.
