Lijiang site

The Lijiang site is an archaeological site of Pleistocene fauna remains as well as bone fragments of anatomically modern humans ( Homo sapiens ) in the prefecture-level city of Lijiang in the northwest of the Chinese province of Yunnan . The site is less than 10 km from Lijiang (100 ° 20 'E x 26 ° 45' N) on the banks of the Yang-chang near Muchiench'iao at an altitude of 2800 m.

Mammalian remains were found in situ in two layers in what was presumably the Young Pleistocene deposits of alluvial sand and rubble . The fauna remains include Pseudaxis sp. , Bubalus sp. and rhinoceros . In addition, fragments of three thigh bones were found from the Young Pleistocene , which are attributed to Homo sapiens .
