Lili Hinstin (* 1977 in Paris ) is a French cultural manager. She has been Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival since December 2018 .

Life

Lili Hinstin studied language, literature and cultural studies in Paris and Padua with a focus on philosophy. In 2001 she founded the film production company Les Films du Saut du Tigre, which specializes in documentaries . From 2005 to 2009 she was responsible for the film activities of the French Academy in Rome . From 2011 to 2013 she was deputy artistic director of the documentary film festival Cinéma du Réel , which has been dedicated to promoting young talent since it was founded in 1986. In 2013 she became director of the international film festival Entrevues Belfort .

On August 24, 2018, she was unanimously elected Artistic Director by the Locarno Film Festival's Board of Directors. On December 1, 2018, she succeeded Carlo Chatrian , who became artistic director of the Berlinale .

In 2019, she was named one of the 500 most influential personalities in the international entertainment industry by the industry journal Variety .
