Carlo Chatrian (born December 9, 1971 in Turin ) is an Italian film critic and film festival organizer.

Life

Carlo Chatrian studied literature and philosophy at the University of Turin and received in 1994 the Laurea .

Chatrian writes for various film magazines and has published a number of books. He works at film festivals. Since 2002 he has been a member of the selection committee in Locarno and since 2008 curator of a number there. From 2001 to 2007 he was Vice Director of the Alba Film Festival . From September 2012 Chatrian was artistic director of the Locarno International Film Festival . On August 24, 2018, Lili Hinstin was elected Artistic Director by the Board of Directors of the Locarno Film Festival; she succeeded Chatrian in this role on December 1, 2018.

Since June 2019 Chatrian is officially the new artistic director and, together with Mariette Rissenbeek the first dual leadership of the Berlinale . In 2020 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
