Maurizio Nichetti (born May 8, 1948 in Milan ) is an Italian actor , film director and screenwriter .

Life

After graduating in architecture, Nichetti attended the acting school of the Piccolo Teatro di Milano in 1975 and worked with Bruno Bozzetto on its animated films as a screenwriter and actor between 1971 and 1979. He also directed advertising films and documentaries. In 1974 he was one of the co-founders of the clown group "Quelli di Grock", toured with their "Magic show" and was often seen in television programs such as L'altra domenica . As a director, Nichetti was for formats like Che fai… ridi? ( Late 1970s), Quo Vadiz? (1984, with Sydne Rome ) and Pista! (1986).

In 1979 he published his film debut Ratataplan based on his own script and with himself in the lead role. The homage to the silent film had only visual gags and was a phenomenal box-office success that grossed over 6 billion lire in Italy with minimal production costs. The Ho fatto splash! was again influenced by surrealism and shed light on the problems of an overwhelmed generation. After a failure, Domani si balla , Nichetti played some comical roles in other people's films. In 1985 he was back as director of Il Bi e il Ba , written by the main actor Nino Frassica , and in 1988 he presented his greatest success to date: The soap thieves , a declaration of love and further development of neorealism , in which Nichetti expanded his catalog of types of acting characters and the one with Moscow Film Festival won the award for best film. Von Luft und Liebe triumphed in Montréal in 1990, when Nichettis mixed his beginnings in animation (made by Guido Manuli ) with real scenes. The original Sefano Quantestorie told in 1993 about the life of a carabiniere , in which the screenwriter and director also offered a highly acclaimed portrayal of his protagonist. After filming Free Snowball for a younger audience , he won a directing award from Italian critics for Luna e l'altra , in which dreams and fantasies fight against the reality of their leading actress.

1998 was Nichetti member of the jury of the Film Festival Berlin , the year after that of Cannes . From 2004 to 2010 he directed the Trento Film Festival .

In the new millennium, after the Honolulu Baby , Nichetti returned to television and made four television films so far. He was also responsible for theater productions. He was twice active as an actor for other directors.

He is married to the set designer Maria Pia Angelini . At least four monographs have so far been devoted to the director.
