Liliput (tricycle)

Lilliput

Liliput is the name of a three-wheeled children's vehicle in the former GDR . The peculiarity of this tricycle was that, unlike other tricycles for children, it only had one rear wheel and two front wheels, and that it also had air-filled tires on the wheels.

The tricycle was produced by VEB Stahlmöbelbau Haldensleben in three series until 1990. The structure corresponded to a children's bicycle in the rear area, and a pedal car in the front area with steering wheel and direct Ackermann steering , similar to the Kettcar . The tricycle was driven by means of power transmission via pedals and a chain to a pinion welded to the rear wheel . There was no freewheel , so a coaster brake was not necessary. The running wheels were constructed from steel disks. A lever was mounted on the central frame tube in front of the bottom bracket , which, by pulling it backwards, presses a brake block onto the tread of the rear wheel. In one of the three series, the chain was surrounded by a full chain guard.

These tricycles were available at rental stations in city parks and other GDR leisure facilities.
