Lilja Kedrowa ( Russian Лиля Кедрова , maiden name Елизавета Николаевна Кедрова / Elizaveta Nikolaevna Kedrowa , English transliteration Lila Kedrova * 9. October 1909 in Petrograd ; † 16th February 2000 in . Sault Ste Marie , Ontario ) was a Russian actress .
Life
Lilja Kedrowa received the Oscar for best supporting actress in 1965 for the role of Madame Hortense in Alexis Sorbas and in 1984 for the same role on Broadway the Tony Award . Her Countess Kuchinska will also be remembered in Alfred Hitchcock's The Torn Curtain .
In the London production of the musical Cabaret, she worked as Miss Schneider .
Lilja Kedrowa, who married Richard Howard on February 16, 1968 , died after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease in 2000 in her Canadian summer home in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario suffered from pneumonia.
