Limia bull and cow in the Netherlands .

The Limia beef or Limiana is a Spanish breed of cattle from the province of Galicia , which is reminiscent of the aurochs , the wild form of domestic cattle , in some phenotypic characteristics and its robustness .

description

It should be noted that with Limia, as with other cattle breeds, there is variation in their originality. Bulls reach an average of 150 cm and cows 140 cm shoulder height. The coat color of the females is light brown, darker on the head, neck and legs, like other wild-colored cows. Bulls have darker fur, ranging in color from black to blackish-brownish, with a tendency towards a lighter saddle. Both sexes have a brightly rimmed muzzle .

The original anatomy and ecological capacities of the breed make them useful for TaurO's project to breed a cattle as similar as possible to the aurochs by crossing them with other primitive breeds. Small Limia herds are already grazing under natural conditions in the Netherlands .

population

The Limia cattle population is increasing rapidly and continuously. In 2002 there were 136 breeding animals, in 2007 around 460 and in 2011 there were already 861.
