Linen Hall Library

The Linen Hall Library is the oldest library in Belfast (founded 1788). It is located at 17 Donegall Square North, Belfast, Northern Ireland . It is the last lending library in Northern Ireland. The building is in the center of Belfast. It is run by an independent, non-profit organization.

history

The library was founded as the Belfast Reading Society in 1788 and renamed the Belfast Society for Promoting Knowledge in 1792 . In 1802 she moved into the White Linen Hall on Donegall Square. After 1980, the library's holdings were secured by renting extensions. The library now has a focus on Irish and Local Studies. The inventory currently amounts to around 250,000 books.
