The Linggiu reservoir is a lake with 3 dams near the village of Bandar Tenggera in the state of Johor in the south of the Malay Peninsula . The lake is about 18 km long and 11 km wide and contains more than 60 islands. It drains over the Sungai Linggiu into the Sungai Johor . Construction of the dam began in 1988; It was completed in 1994 at a cost of S $ 96 million . The reservoir is operated by the state of Singapore and serves to supply the city-state with drinking water.
