The Linha de Carangola is a historic railway line in Brazil operated by the Estrada de Ferro Leopoldina railway company .

history

The Companhia Estrada de Ferro do Carangola railway company was founded on March 20, 1875. The company had various concessions for routes in the provinces of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo . Among these lines was the later Linha de Carangola , which was not incorporated into the Estrada de Ferro Leopoldina until 1890 . The first section of this line between Murundu and Santo Antonio do Carangola (Porciúncula) was built between 1878 and 1886. After 1973, the successor company RFFSA closed the section between Porciúncula and Itaperuna on December 31, 1973, and the rest of the route on November 1, 1977.
