Linkbait describes an area of search engine optimization that is about increasing the number of backlinks to a website. Linkbaiting is part of link building .

A linkbait is an action in which website operators set a link from their site to the website of the linkbait organizer. Most of the time, setting the link is associated with something in return. The aim of a linkbait is to get as many additional back references as possible, as these were used by search engines to determine the order in the result list when searching in a search engine (also ranking in search engine optimization ) of web pages. In addition, the link popularity of the website is to be increased.

Common forms of linkbait include creating infographics ; H. the visually appealing preparation of statistics, as well as researched and prepared articles, e.g. in the form of top 100 lists.
