Left communists

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Left Communists were a group of members of the Reichstag and the Prussian Landtag who were excluded from the KPD in the period from 1926 to 1928.

The Left Communists in the Reichstag were not a uniformly acting political group, but merely a “technical” association to achieve group or factional rights of a total of 15 politicians who were excluded from the KPD between January 1926 and February 1928. These included former members of the “left” wing of the KPD such as Ruth Fischer , Hugo Urbahns or Werner Scholem as well as “ultra-left” MPs such as Iwan Katz , Karl Korsch , Ernst Schwarz or Heinrich Schlagewerth and the loner who was part of the group at times Karl Tiedt . There was no consensus on questions of principle that were important for communists, such as the policy of the united front , the attitude towards the Soviet Union or the ADGB trade unions .

Also in the Prussian state parliament from 1927-28 there was a group of left communists with up to eight members , which was led there by Anton Grylewicz .

In 1928 some members of the Left Communists such as Fischer, Urbahns and Otto Weber took part in the founding of the Leninbund , others were involved in council communist groups or withdrew from politics after losing their mandate on the occasion of the new elections in May 1928.
