The Linux Journal was a US Linux - Journal of Belltown Media Inc. of Houston , Texas .

Linux Journal was the first magazine to deal with the Linux operating system . The first issue was sold in March 1994 by the Canadian Bob Young, a Red Hat project associate and former head of his ACC, and Phil Hughes, and contained an interview with Linus Torvalds .

In 2011 the magazine was discontinued and converted to an online magazine. In 2017 the end was announced, but then the VPN provider Private Internet Access (PIA) stepped in as a donor.

The Linux Journal has been classified as a forum for extremists by the NSA .

On August 7, 2019, the magazine announced that it would no longer be carried out.
