Linz basement theater
The Linz cellar theater is a free theater in Linz , Upper Austria . It has been located at Hauptplatz 21 since 1957.
history
In 1954 the Linz cellar theater was founded by Helmut Ortner in the cellar of the former Café Goethe at the Goethe Crossing. In 1957 it moved to its current location on the main square. Many actors who became famous later already played on this stage, such as B. Herbert Baum , Ulli Fessl , Peter Uray , Thomas Kasten , Franz P. Danner and Elisabeth Rath . From 1969 until today mainly boulevard pieces have been played, for which the basement theater has made a name for itself. In the 2011/12 season the theater had around 7,200 visitors.
Helmut Ortner's son Wolfgang Ortner has been director of the theater since 1990 .
