The rowing club Ister (RV Ister Linz) is a rowing club in Linz . It was founded in 1876 . The name Ister comes from the name that was widespread in ancient times for the lower course of the Danube .

history

The Linz rowing club LRV Ister was founded in 1876 ​​on the basis of a decree of the Imperial and Royal Lieutenancy of December 29, 1875. In 1881 the first victory at the Gmunden Regatta, numerous other victories followed. The first boathouse was in the Straßerau. In 1884 the first Ister Kränzchen, the predecessor of the Pirate Ball, which has been taking place since 1957, took place, where Johann Strauss (son) made music in 1906. In 1893 the boathouse was built on the Upper Donaulände, and in 1973 the company moved to its current location at the Winterhafen.

In 1962, the LRV Ister won the first bronze medal in the world championship in Lucerne in a four-man without a helmsman.

Currently (since 2018) Alexander Weigl is president of the association.

Trivia

For the 50th anniversary in 1926, an Ister march and an Ister waltz were specially composed.
