Liouville is a small impact crater on the easternmost edge of the lunar front , southeast of Mare Undarum and east of the roughly equal size Respighi crater . The crater is bowl-shaped and only slightly eroded.
The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1973 after the French mathematician Joseph Liouville .
