Lippern (Oberhausen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lippern is the name of a former farming community in the western Ruhr area .

Lippern, whose place name can be traced back to the Middle Ages , was built on a narrow strip of cultivated land between the Emscher in the north and the Lipper Heide in the south. This was an approximately 24 km 2 large, largely unpopulated heath area that stretched between Meiderich in the west and Borbeck in the east. Lippern, which was under the sovereignty of the Essen Monastery for a long time , came to Prussia in 1815 and was now part of the Borbeck mayor's office . In 1861/62 it was detached from this and formed the newly founded municipality of Oberhausen with the neighboring farmers Lirich and parts of Meiderich, Alstaden , Styrum and Dümpten . While Lirich still represents a district of Oberhausen today, Lippern, which at the time consisted of only 13 courtyards, has perished as urbanization progresses . Today, the street Im Lipperfeld , around which an industrial area on the southern edge of the Neue Mitte Oberhausen is grouped, is a reminder of the rural past .

Individual evidence

  1. The authenticity of a document dated to the year 947 and attributed to King Otto I with the first mention of Lippern by name in connection with the Essen monastery is not undisputed. Cf.
