Lisala is the capital of Mongala Province in the north of the Democratic Republic of the Congo . The Congo River flows through the city . According to a calculation in 2010, Lisala's population is 79,235.

Lisala is the birth town of Mobutu Sese Seko , who was president of the dictatorial state of Zaire from 1965 to 1997 .
