List of old synagogues in Lower Saxony
Of the numerous synagogues that were located in what is now the state of Lower Saxony in the 1930s , only a few were able to escape destruction by the National Socialists during the November pogroms in 1938 . The preserved houses of God are mostly buildings that had previously been abandoned by their communities or whose destruction was not or only incompletely carried out due to the proximity to adjacent houses.
The following list shows the old synagogues in Lower Saxony that still exist today. Former places of worship that have been converted into residential or commercial buildings or warehouses in a way that makes the original function unrecognizable are not taken into account:
- Old synagogue in Bodenfelde (removed from its original location and rebuilt in Göttingen . Use as a place of worship by the local Jewish community)
- Old Synagogue Bückeburg (today the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses)
- Synagogue Celle (today documentation center and museum)
- Former synagogue Dornum (today documentation center and museum)
- Former synagogue in Neustadtgödens
- Former synagogue in Stadthagen
