List of old synagogues in Schleswig-Holstein
Of the numerous synagogues that were located in what is now the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein in the 1930s, very few were able to escape destruction by the Nazis during the November pogroms in 1938 .
The following list shows the old synagogues in Schleswig-Holstein that still exist today. Former places of worship that have been converted into residential or commercial buildings or warehouses in a way that makes the original function unrecognizable are not taken into account:
image | place | synagogue | Construction year | use | Remarks |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Friedrichstadt | Synagogue (Friedrichstadt) | 1844/47 | today a cultural center with an exhibition on the history of the Jewish community | ||
Rendsburg | Jewish Museum Rendsburg | 1842-45 | today a meeting place, in the neighboring former school building there is a Jewish museum | ||
Bad Segeberg | Bad Segeberg synagogue | 2007 | The new building was consecrated in 2007. | ||
Lübeck | Lubeck synagogue | 1876/80 | After destruction and renovations during the National Socialist era, the outward appearance changed; today re-used as a synagogue |
