List of highways in Pakistan
Pakistan's highways are maintained and operated by the National Highway Authority .
Features of the highways
Pakistan's highways are either six-lane or four-lane. They are fenced on the outside for safety and to prevent unauthorized access by pedestrians, animals and slow-moving vehicles and are at least partially subject to tolls .
The lowest speed is 80 km / h and the maximum speed 100 km / h for heavy vehicles and 120 km / h for light transport vehicles. Use of the freeways is restricted to fast-moving vehicles, including heavy motorcycles. Pedestrians, bicycles, low-powered motorcycles, animal-powered cars, and other slow vehicles are not allowed on the freeways.
By March 2011, motorways with a total length of 632 km had been completed and around 233 km were under construction and more are planned. Pakistan's highways are part of the Pakistani National Trade Corridor project, which will link the three Pakistani ports on the Arabian Sea with the rest of the country and will continue north to Afghanistan, Central Asia and China.
