List of honorary citizens of Miltenberg

The honorary citizenship is the highest municipal award of the city of Miltenberg .

They are awarded by resolution of the city council. Honorary citizens receive congratulations from the city on the occasion of their birthday and at the turn of the year. In the event of death, a representative of the city council attends the funeral.

In Miltenberg, the following people were made honorary citizens.

Note: The listing is done chronologically according to the date of award. It is probably incomplete before 1917 and after 1952.

The honorary citizens of the city of Miltenberg

  1. Wilhelm Klingenstein (born May 24, 1833 - † February 27, 1916)
    Awarded on June 1, 1911
    Wilhelm (also Wolf or William) Klingenstein became wealthy as a tobacco trader and importer in London. With generous donations, he supported and made numerous building projects possible in his native Miltenberg - including the construction of the new synagogue in 1903-04.
  2. Andreas Lang (March 17, 1857 - February 26, 1946)

    Awarded on December 3, 1917
    Lang was the overseer of the Miltenberg state forest / city forest. He was also the chairman of the Miltenberg Beautification Association. He promoted the development of the region for tourism.
  3. Gustav Jacob (born February 22, 1854 - † June 11, 1933)
    Commerce Council
    Awarded on December 3, 1917
    Jacob was the owner of Steingaesser & Co. On the occasion of the company's 100th anniversary, he was made an honorary citizen. He also served the local community as a member of the community college and the municipal council.
  4. Dr. Johann Jakob von Hauck (* December 22, 1861 - † January 23, 1943)
    Archbishop of Bamberg
    Awarded on May 2, 1921
    His hometown honored Hauck's services to the diocese of Würzburg, in which Miltenberg is located, with the award of honorary citizenship.
  5. Rupert Poiger (born August 12, 1858 - † February 16, 1935)
    Senior Student Council i. R.
    Awarded on January 1, 1924
    Poiger was made an honorary citizen on the occasion of his retirement from active school service. He earned services to the Latin school, the later Progymnasium with Realschule, at the head of which he stood for 25 years, as well as to the other public life of the city.
  6. Dr. Matthias Ehrenfried (born August 3, 1871; † May 30, 1948)
    Bishop of Würzburg
    Awarded on April 19, 1927
    Ehrenfried was honored for his services in setting up the "Kilianeum" episcopal boys' seminar in Miltenberg.
  7. Dr. Heinrich Zunken (March 11, 1858 - November 16, 1952)
    Medical Council
    Awarded on August 12, 1929
    Zunken worked as a doctor at the city hospital for 45 years.
  8. Dr. Josef Meisenzahl (born October 19, 1876 - † October 15, 1952)
    Papal house prelate, cathedral chapter
    Awarded on May 5, 1930
    With the award, Meisenzahl's support for the interests of the city in the establishment of the episcopal boys' seminary was recognized.
  9. Martin Vierengel (February 23, 1869 - December 18, 1960)
    Senior teacher i. R.
    Awarded on July 30, 1952
    Vierengel worked as a teacher in Miltenberg and was a great promoter of music. He was made an honorary citizen for his services to the city's cultural life.
  10. Ludwig Frosch (born April 22, 1872 - † June 14, 1956)
    City planning officer a. D.
    Awarded on August 30, 1952
    Frosch was honored for his services to the design of the city, as well as for the establishment and expansion of the Michaelismesse.
