The honorary citizenship is the highest honor that the Swabian town of Rain can forgive.

Since 1915, the following 13 people have been made honorary citizens.

The honorary citizens of the city of Rain

  1. Max Müller (born August 20, 1846 in Kleinkitzighofen, † March 22, 1926 in Rain)
    Head teacher
    Award ceremony on 4th / 5th September 1915
    Müller was a teacher in Rain from 1872 to 1915. When he left school after 50 years of service, he was made an honorary citizen in recognition of his many years of service.
  2. Leonhard Riegger (born August 2, 1861 in Dillingen adDonau; † April 7, 1937 in Neuburg adDonau)
    District School Board
    Awarded on July 12, 1926
    Riegger was a teacher at the boys' school from 1887 to 1926. In addition, from 1920 to 1923 he held the office of district school council. In recognition of his almost 40 years of meritorious work and in honor of his great services to the local school system, he received the town's honorary citizenship.
  3. Xaver Bschorer (born December 11, 1859 in Mertingen, † December 23, 1940 in Rain)

    Awarded on November 15, 1929
    Bschorer was the city's first mayor from November 2, 1909 to March 10, 1932. On the occasion of his 70th birthday, he was granted honorary citizenship in grateful recognition of his services to the city of Rain during his 40 years of service and 20 years of leadership as 1st mayor.
  4. Ludwig Ehnle (born May 11, 1905 in Rain, † July 17, 1960 in Kissing)

    Awarded on August 10, 1955
    Ehnle was made an honorary citizen in recognition and appreciation of his selfless services in securing and restoring the Tilly monument, which had already been scrapped as a result of the war measures.
  5. Carl Faig (born September 19, 1887 in Rain, † July 11, 1970 in Rain)

    Awarded on May 8, 1957
    Faig was first city councilor from 1919 to 1933 and then from 1948 first mayor. On the occasion of his 70th birthday and for 25 years in the service of the city of Rain, he was granted honorary citizenship. It is primarily due to his achievements, his interest and his skill that the city of Rain was able to experience a tremendous upswing thanks to the sugar factory. A street in the Brucklach building area is named after him.
  6. Babette Müller (born July 8, 1883 in Rain, † January 2, 1980 in Rain)

    Awarded on July 3, 1963
    Müller was the daughter of the honorary citizen Max Müller and did volunteer work in the Bavarian Red Cross, among others. In recognition and appreciation of her services, which she has earned in decades of selfless work for the general public for the benefit of the city of Rain, she was also awarded honorary citizenship. From March 1973 she was also the holder of the citizen's medal. A street in the Brucklach building area is named after her.
  7. Klement Birle (born February 5, 1887 in Rain; † October 23, 1969 in Neuburg adDonau)

    Birle was a town councilor in Rain for 30 years, from 1919–1933 and from 1948–1964. On the occasion of his 78th birthday, he was made an honorary citizen in recognition and appreciation of the services he had earned in decades of selfless work for the general public for the benefit of the city of Rain.
  8. Hanns Wolf (born April 2, 1901 in Schweinfurt; † July 15, 1972 in Neuburg adDonau)

    Wolf was district administrator in the district of Neuburg adDonau. A few days before its dissolution as part of the regional reform, the city of Rain, as the largest municipality in the district, made him an honorary citizen in recognition of his special services to the city of Rain (district hospital, sponsorship of the secondary school and other).
  9. Georg Weber (born March 28, 1910 in Augsburg, † October 17, 1986 in Rain)
    Entrepreneur

    Weber was the owner of the Dehner company, which is the city's largest employer. He was made an honorary citizen of the city for building up the Dehner company from the smallest beginnings to one of the largest companies in the industry in Germany, for creating around 500 jobs and for promoting associations and social life. He had also been awarded the Citizen's Medal three years earlier. The park he donated between the old town and the Ziegelmoos district and the TSV 1896 Rain stadium are named after him.
  10. Michael Raucheisen (born February 9, 1889 in Rain; † May 27, 1984 in Beatenberg / Switzerland)

    Awarded on January 10, 1984
    Professor Raucheisen was made an honorary citizen on the occasion of his 95th birthday. He has carried the reputation of his native city around the world and is one of the city's greatest sons. Previously, in September 1970, he was the first to be awarded the newly created Citizen's Medal.
  11. Ludwig Dorn (born May 6, 1900 in Bodenwalz, † June 14, 1986 in Legau)

    Dorn was pastor of Rain for many years. In addition to his pastoral work, six writings on the town, parish and school history of Rain were produced, the copying rights of which have been transferred to the town. In recognition of his services to the historical field, he was granted honorary citizenship. From June 1974 he was also the holder of the citizen's medal. A street in the Brucklach building area is named after him.
  12. Karl Würmseher (born September 10, 1920 in Rain, † July 20, 1990 in Rain)

    Würmseher was first city councilor from 1952 to 1966, then from 1966 to 1990 the city's first mayor. He was also a member of the district council from 1966 to 1984. In recognition of his outstanding services to the city, he was made an honorary citizen shortly before his death. Since July 1987 he has also received the Citizen's Medal. A street in the Mantlacher Feld construction area was named after him near his former apartment.
  13. Albert Weber (born September 1, 1947 in Augsburg)

    Weber is the son of the honorary citizen Georg Weber and managing partner of the Dehner company. 27 years after his father, he was also made an honorary citizen in recognition and appreciation of his outstanding achievements for the benefit of the city of Rain and its citizens, in particular for economic development and the outstanding promotion of sport, art and culture.
