List of honorary citizens of Schmidgaden

The honorary citizenship is the highest honor that the Bohemian community Schmidgaden can forgive. In accordance with Article 16 of the Bavarian Municipal Code, the municipality can make people who have rendered outstanding services to them honorary citizens.

So far, the following nine people have been made honorary citizens.

The honorary citizens of the Schmidgaden community

  1. Johann Baptist Kraus († 1918 in Amberg)
    Teacher
    Kraus taught at the local elementary school from 1872 to 1906.
  2. Josef Willkofer (born January 10, 1902 in Regensburg; † February 7, 1966)
    Pastor
    Willkofer was pastor in Schmidgaden for almost 25 years. He initiated the reconstruction of the parish church. After his death he found his final resting place next to the main altar.
  3. Ortwin Wenzelides
    Rector i. R.
    Wenzelides is the author of the church chronicle.
  4. Josef Bauer (born January 30, 1899 in Schmidgaden; † February 16, 1978)
    mayor
    Awarded in May 1972
    Bauer was mayor from 1935 to 1945 and from 1952 to 1972. During his tenure, the school house was completed, the kindergarten rebuilt, the sports field and the secondary school rebuilt.
  5. Josef Gmeiner (born December 16, 1921 in Woppenried; † January 31, 1994 in Weiden idOPf.)
    Pastor
    Awarded on May 18, 1990
    Gmeiner came to the Schmidgaden-Trisching parish in 1970. He initiated the renovation of the churches in Schmidgaden and Trisching as well as the construction of the parish hall. In addition, he was active in the school service.
  6. Alois Graßer (born May 5, 1923 in Ammerthal; † December 25, 1993)
    Pastor
    Awarded in July 1990
    Graßer took over the parish Rottendorf in January 1960. He initiated the renovation of the church in Rottendorf, the establishment of the Way of the Cross on the Kalvarienberg, the building of the chapel in Littenhof and the renovation of the church in Gösselsdorf and the chapel in Wolfsbach.
  7. Michael Meier (born May 7, 1928 in Schmidgaden; † November 30, 2015)
    Master carpenter and councilor
    Awarded on May 8, 2003
    After passing his master craftsman's examination in carpentry in 1956, he took over the family-owned company, which includes a sawmill, a joinery, and a carpentry and roofing shop. From 1965 to 1972 and from 1984 to 1996 he was a member of the local council.
  8. Alois Scherm (born July 30, 1941 in Kirchenpingarten)

    Awarded on August 26, 2007
    Scherm came to the Schmidgaden parish on September 1, 1992. He continued the interior renovation of the parish church in Schmidgaden, which had begun under his predecessor. The renovation of the church in Trisching and the exterior renovation of the parish church in Schmidgaden were also completed.
  9. Helmut Lehmann (born March 2, 1918 in Jena; † August 29, 2010)
    technical director of Buchtal GmbH
    Awarded January 24, 2008
    Lehmann was technical director at Buchtal GmbH from 1954 to 1984. In his 30 years of service, he has brought the company an extraordinary upward trend.
