The honorary citizenship is the highest honor that the Lower Bavarian town of Viechtach can forgive. It honors personalities who have rendered outstanding services to the well-being of the city and whose services have an impact beyond the city. It honors people who, through their work, have influenced and promoted the development of the entire city in a sustainable positive sense.

So far, the following 9 people have been made honorary citizens.

The honorary citizens of the city of Viechtach

  1. Anton Lipf
    City pastor and episcopal spiritual council
    Lipf worked as a pastor in Viechtach. He was made an honorary citizen in grateful recognition of his many years of pastoral work in Viechtach and his collaboration in community affairs.
  2. Anna Lackerbauer
    Rector a. D.
    Awarded on April 6, 1962
    Lackerbauer was a school principal and published the Viechtach homeland book over the centuries . In recognition of her great services to researching the history of the city of Viechtach, she became an honorary citizen.
  3. Ernst Häusler
    City pastor and dean
    Awarded on April 6, 1962
    Häusler worked as a pastor in Viechtach. With the award of honorary citizenship, the city recognized his great services to the promotion of residential construction and industrial settlement in the city of Viechtach by providing building land.
  4. Dr. Hans Schellerer
    Notary i. R.
    Awarded on November 12, 1962
    The Munich notary had supported the renovation of the parish church and the little Josefikirchlein with a generous donation of around DM 30,000.
  5. Karl Gareis
    Pharmacist and former mayor
    Awarded on October 10, 1966
    Gareis was mayor of Viechtach for many years. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, the city honored his services in the cultural field and as the district nature conservation officer of the district of Viechtach with the award of honorary citizenship.
  6. Dr. Heinrich Zenglein
    Oberfinanzrat
    Awarded on January 12, 1968
    The regional finance council of Regensburg made great contributions to the promotion of residential construction and industrial settlement in the city of Viechtach by providing building land.
  7. Johann Fersch
    City Pastor and Episcopal Spiritual Council
    Awarded in October 1981
    Fersch worked as a pastor in Viechtach. During this time he had the parish church and the St. Anna chapel renovated inside and out and the parish and city library built.
  8. Josef Niedermayer
    1. Mayor and member of the state parliament
    Awarded on June 2, 1986
    With his appointment as an honorary citizen, the city recognized his longstanding excellent achievements as 1st mayor.
  9. Helmut Feuchtinger
    District Administrator a. D.
    Awarded on December 18, 1994
    In recognition of his many years of meritorious work as District Administrator of the Regen district, also for the benefit of the citizens of the city of Viechtach, he was made an honorary citizen.
