The city of Weilburg has granted eight people honorary citizenship since 1903 .

Paul von Hindenburg , Adolf Hitler , Hermann Göring , Jakob Sprenger and Prince Philipp von Hessen (President of the Hesse-Nassau Province), who were made honorary citizens in 1933 , were revoked again in 1946 by a resolution of the Weilburg city council.

The honorary citizens of the city of Weilburg

  1. Wilhelm Farr (born July 8, 1833 in Freiensen, † February 10, 1907 in Weilburg)
    Businessman, politician, mayor
    Awarded in 1903
    Farr was a successful businessman in Weilburg. After he had been a member of the city council from 1870 and of the Prussian House of Representatives for three years from 1876, he was elected mayor in 1885. He remained in office until 1888 and when he died he bequeathed a large sum to the city for charitable purposes.
  2. Gustav Karthaus (born March 21, 1859 in Grumbach; † February 8, 1934 in Weilburg)

    Awarded in 1927
    After Karthaus had already served as mayor in Melsungen for four and a half years, he took over the leadership of the city of Weilburg on October 1, 1905. During his 21-year term in office, he was primarily committed to improving the infrastructure. The water supply was modernized and, with the construction of an electricity station, the power supply was also modernized. In 1913 the new barracks was built. He had numerous streets in the city expanded and initiated the expansion of the city with the designation of building areas on the Zeppenfeld and on the Karlsberg. In addition, he dedicated himself to the city's social problems by supporting the city's welfare associations. On the occasion of his retirement on December 31, 1926, he was made an honorary citizen.
  3. Friedrich Brinkmann (born August 25, 1877 in Weilburg; † July 26, 1960 in Weilburg)

    In 1900 Brinkmann took over his father's butcher's shop in the upper Langgasse. At this time he began to get involved in a number of honorary positions. He was honorary master of the butcher's guild, old master of the Wiesbaden Chamber of Crafts and honorary member of the Weilburg volunteer fire department . From 1902 until his death he was captain of the citizen guard of the city of Weilburg, one of the oldest traditional associations in the Nassauer Land .
