The honorary citizenship is the highest municipal award the city Zwiesel . They are awarded by resolution of the city council.

Since 1897 the following people have been made honorary citizens.

  1. Andreas Gruber
    Mayor and businessman
    Awarded on October 22, 1897
    Gruber made a contribution to the Zwiesel market during his time as mayor. During his term of office, the construction of the water pipeline, the planning of the girls' school and measures to beautify the area fall.
  2. Johann Krieger
    Teacher
    Awarded on October 22, 1897
    Krieger was honored for his 44 years as a teacher. He spent 32 of these years in Zwiesel.
  3. Johann Georg Prince
    Spiritual advice, dean
    Awarded on November 2, 1901
    Fürst worked as a (city) pastor in Zwiesel from 1876 to 1904. During this time the Catholic parish church was rebuilt. He also campaigned for the local beautification and was a sponsor of the local associations. A street is named after him.
  4. Franz Höss
    royal councilor, general practitioner
    Awarded on December 14, 1911
    Hoeß worked as a general practitioner for 35 years. In addition, he worked in the hospital for 20 years and as a medical column doctor for 22 years. He served the local authority for 20 years as a municipal representative, 12 years as a magistrate and 9 years as a local treasurer.

  6. Adam Janka Sr.

    Awarded on September 28, 1918
    During Janka's 12-year term of office as mayor, the construction of the girls' school, the naming of the streets of the city and the establishment of the children's preservation and soup facility , on July 1, 1868, he was co-founder of the volunteer fire brigade , to which he was a member for 50 years and 15 years served as the board of directors. For many years he was the parish councilor and councilor.
  7. Hans Sebastian Schmid

  9. Josef Andreas Röck

    Awarded on March 27, 1925
    Röck held the office of mayor for 19 years. He initiated the construction of the city slaughterhouse, the establishment of the technical school for the glass industry and wood carving, the construction of the boys' school and the morgue , and the electrification of the city. He was also a member of the agricultural district committee for Lower Bavaria, district council, municipal representative and councilor. He was a co-founder of the gymnastics club from 1886, honorary board member of the medical column and sponsor of the volunteer fire department.

    Seidlmaier worked as a pastor in Zwiesel from 1928 to 1955. He was made an honorary citizen for his many years of pastoral work.
  11. Erich Schott (born March 29, 1891 in Jena; † July 24, 1989)

    Awarded on March 2, 1966
    Schott had been managing director of the Jena glassworks Schott since 1927 and general representative of the Carl Zeiss Foundation since 1934 . After the end of the Second World War, he rebuilt the company in West Germany and relocated it to Zwiesel. On the occasion of his 75th birthday, he was given honorary citizenship for his great services to the economic development of the city.

    Klotz was head of the Zwiesel-Ost forestry office from 1949 to 1989 and played a key role in the redesign of the Zwiesel Forest Museum.
