List of Chiba Governors
This list includes all the governors ( [ken-] chiji , in the early years kenrei ) of the eastern Japanese prefecture (-ken) Chiba since its foundation by the merger of the prefectures Kisarazu and Inba in 1873.
As in all prefectures, the governor of Chiba has been directly elected by the people since 1947. According to the provisions of the Constitution and the Self-Government Act, he heads the prefecture administration, has the right of initiative for prefectural statutes (jōrei) , can issue official ordinances (kisoku) , submits the budget and certain personnel nominations to the prefecture parliament and represents the prefecture externally. The seat of the prefecture administration of Chiba was from the beginning in the city (-machi) Chiba in the district (-gun) Chiba , which later became the today's independent city (-shi) Chiba .
