The order of the kings of Akkad is known from the Sumerian king list . Their absolute dating depends on how the reign of Hammurabi attaches; Two different chronologies are used in this article : the short and the middle chronology.

Dating

Previously it was believed that Rimuš, the younger brother, ruled first. An older king list published around 2003 makes a reverse order very likely. The naming of exact numbers of those killed and prisoners of Naram-Sin, introduced under Rimuš, also speak for it, since under Maništušu such mentions are missing. The dates of the reigns take the new knowledge into account (see individual evidence Selz )
