List of the kings of Hawaii
The List of the Kings of Hawaii includes the sovereign monarchs of the Kingdom of Hawaii .
The kingdom was founded by Kamehameha I in the early 19th century , who, starting from the big island (Hawai'i) , united the entire chain of islands into one state. The monarchy was abolished in 1894 in favor of a republic , and in 1898 the island state was annexed by the United States of America .
