Kamehameha IV.

Kamehameha IV. (* February 9, 1834 in Honolulu ; † November 30, 1863 ibid), orig. Alexander Liholiho , was King of Hawaii from 1855 to 1863 . Kamehameha IV., A nephew of Kamehameha III. , ascended the throne of the kingdom at age 20 and introduced the English language to the schools of Hawaii. On January 14, 1857, he was accepted into the Masonic lodge “Le Progrès de l'Océanie” in Honolulu and was its master of the chair for several years . Kamehameha IV is featured on several Hawaiian postage stamps.

One of the Hawaiian names of Alexander Liholiho was ʻIolani , after whom the ʻIolani Palace was named.

His wife was Emma Naʻea Rooke (Emma Kalanikaumakaʻamano Kaleleonālani Naʻea Rooke).
