List of stumbling blocks in Rotenburg (Wümme)
The list of the stumbling blocks in Rotenburg (Wümme) gives an overview of the artist Gunter Demnig in Rotenburg (Wümme) laid stumbling blocks . There is no official list, but the approximate locations are known. The remaining data was obtained from photos of the stones. The 10 × 10 × 10 cm large concrete blocks with brass plaques are mostly set into the sidewalk in front of those houses that were home to victims of the Holocaust and provide information about their names, their ages and their fate. The stumbling blocks are intended to counteract the oblivion of the victims of the National Socialist tyranny.
With the laying in front of the main entrance of the Agaplesion Diakonieklinikum in Rotenburg, stones were laid in front of a hospital for the first time in Europe. They are reminiscent of the fate of two women who died as a result of forced sterilization.
There are more stones in front of the main entrance of the Rotenburg Works of the Inner Mission . At least 547 people were deported from this institution for the mentally handicapped, which had existed since the 19th century. Stones were laid for three former residents to represent the fate of all affected people from the facility.
More stones have been laid in memory of members of the Jewish Rotenburg family Cohn and their employees. A museum in the city, the Cohn Barn , also commemorates them .
