Joachim Brunner was born in Steinach in Bad Waldsee in 1884 . In 1912 he moved to Weingarten. He was a lathe operator by profession, but earned his living as a traveling trader. First he moved from place to place on a bicycle, later on a motorbike, and sold etc. a. Buttons, elastic bands and work clothes. He was married and had two daughters. In 1919 he was a candidate for the SPD in the municipal council elections. From 1929 to 1936 the family lived at Wilhelmstrasse 30, then at Bachstrasse 1. In 1937 Brunner was banned from the passport, which was considered a “criminal record”. He was considered a Nazi opponent and was arrested in September 1943 together with other members of a card group in Cafe Haimayer. At least two of those arrested, Sepp Brei and Joachim Brunner, were imprisoned in the Welzheim concentration camp . Brei survived the Nazi regime and in 1945 was appointed acting mayor of the Baienfurt community . Brunner was transferred to Dachau concentration camp on April 26 and to Mauthausen concentration camp on August 17, 1944 . His prisoner numbers were 67155 (in Dachau) and 89200 (in Mauthausen). He was killed on March 12, 1945.
