List of student nations in Helsinki

In Helsinki there are currently 15 student nations, or Osakunta in Finnish , in which the students of the University of Helsinki are organized. The first four of these are for Swedish-speaking students, the other eleven for Finnish- speaking students, although the choice of Osakunta is no longer compulsory based on geographic origin. Therefore, foreign exchange students are also free to choose “their” Osakunta.

The student union fee is paid directly to Osakunta. This takes on tasks typical of the student union . However, the Osakunta , which historically emerged from country teams , represent more than just a representation of the interests of the student body. It has a decisive influence on the social offering for students through its student-friendly offers, such as bars, discos or restaurants, which are exclusive to members of Osakunta.
