The renaissance castle was built at the end of the 16th century. After changing hands several times, it became the property of Alfred Ritter von Jurnitschek in 1877. Between 1880 and 1885 he had the castle redesigned on a large scale. The most famous artists of the time, including August Eisenmenger , were commissioned with the work. In this way, Puchberg became a complete testimony to historicism .

When the Puchberg Castle came into the possession of Alfred Ritter von Jurnitschek, he also had the associated Meierhof redesigned. Among other things, a coal gasification plant with a gasometer was built. At first the gas was used directly for lighting with gas lamps. Later, a gas-powered motor with a generator was installed and the castle had electric light as early as the end of the 19th century.
