List of the largest emitters of fluorinated greenhouse gases
from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The list of the largest emitters of fluorinated greenhouse gases contains tables with information on the emission of fluorinated greenhouse gases ( F-gases ) by country and on the worldwide annual emissions. The fluorinated gases are composed of HFC , PFC , SF 6 and NF 3 . The data is based on the PRIMAP-hist series of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), in which data from various sources were merged in order to generate a comprehensive and coherent set of data on greenhouse gas emissions from 1850 to 2017. Emissions of F-gases were about their global warming potential in CO 2 equivalents (CO 2 -eq) converted.
In 2017, 0.87 billion tons (Gt) of CO 2 equivalents were emitted worldwide in the form of F-gases, which is just under 2% of the total greenhouse gases emitted. Around two thirds (67%) of these emissions came from the four countries China , USA , Bolivia and Japan . Virtually all emissions of F-gases worldwide come from industrial processes.
By country
The following table contains the 20 countries with the highest emissions of fluorinated gases in 2017. All figures are rounded to the nearest month.
Emissions of F-gases according to the IPCC in 2006 entirely to the sector categories for Industrial Processes associated (Engl. Industrial Processes and Product Use , IPPU).
Worldwide emissions
The next table shows the annual worldwide emissions of F-gases since 1950.
