List of folklore and folklore societies

This is a list of folklore and folklore societies . It does not claim to be up-to-date or complete. The British Folklore Society was founded in London in 1878 under the name Folk-Lore Society . The English made-up word "folk-lore" was created by the cultural historian William John Thoms (1803-1885) with reference to Jacob Grimm's German mythology .
