These lists of the most common passwords were created from password lists that became known through data leaks . Such passwords should not be used.

The Worst Passwords List is a list of the most common passwords each year. It has been published by the security company SplashData since 2011. The sources for this are millions of passwords from data leaks, mainly from North America and Europe. In 2016, the 25 most common passwords made up over 10% of the passwords examined. The most common password, "123456", made up 4% of the entries. The passwords "adobe123" and "photoshop" are prominently represented in 2013 because this year there was a particularly large data leak with the data of over 48 million users of Adobe software.

Keeper

In 2016, the manufacturers of the password management software Keeper also compiled a list of the most common passwords out of 25 million passwords that became known through data leaks this year.
