Johann Georg Längin

Johann Georg Längin (born October 31, 1827 in Buggingen , † September 13, 1897 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German pastor and writer .

Life

Born as the son of an innkeeper, Längin attended the high school in Müllheim and the Lyceum Karlsruhe . He studied Protestant theology in Heidelberg and Halle . During his studies in the winter semester of 1848/49 he became a member of the Hercynia Heidelberg fraternity and the Fürstenthal fraternity in Halle ; In 1850 he became an honorary member of the Hercynia Göttingen fraternity . In 1849 he took part in the Hecker train in Baden . After completing his studies, he entered the clerical office in 1852 and became pastor in Schiltach in 1854 , garrison preacher in Karlsruhe in 1864 and pastor in the west of Karlsruhe in 1865 . From 1873 to 1886 he was head of the Baden Preachers' Association . He was elected several times in the general synod. He sponsored the Froebel Kindergarten in Karlsruhe and the First Karlsruhe Girls' High School , where he worked as a teacher .

He was friends with Victor Scheffel and published poetry and theological writings and dramatic works.

In 1866, Längin married Eugenie (1839–1929), daughter of Hofkammerrat Anton Bilharz (1788–1877). He was related by marriage to Alfons Bilharz and Theodor Bilharz . His son was Theodor Längin (1867–1947), director of the Badische Landesbibliothek in Karlsruhe.
