The Altaussee Literature Museum is a literature museum in Altaussee in the Salzkammergut in Austria . It is located in the Altaussee Kur- und Amtshaus.
history
The museum was founded in 1970 by Alois Mayrhuber as a literature and local history museum. Threatened by closure, it moved in 2005, after the intervention of the writer Barbara Frischmuth , from the Steinberghaus (show mine of the Altaussee salt mine ) to the spa and administrative building in the center of Altaussee.
Collection and exhibition
The focus of the collection is on writers who worked in Altaussee, such as Hugo von Hofmannsthal , Friedrich Torberg and Jakob Wassermann . The museum houses a permanent exhibition with text and image material, historical exhibits and audio and video samples. A book flea market, book shop, reading room and literature garden should further contribute to the mediation of literature.
Events and scholarship
Readings by contemporary writers take place regularly in summer . The literature museum is also the starting point for the “LiteraTour”, a literary walk through Altaussee.
Together with Salinen Austria AG , a “Salinenstipendium” donated by them is awarded annually. The funded scientific work should either deal with a historical topic of the Ausseerland or a literary figure related to the Ausseerland.
