Liu Fang

Liu Fang ( Chinese  劉芳  /  刘芳 , Pinyin Liú Fāng ; * 1974 in Kunming , Yunnan Province ) is a Chinese musician. She is internationally known as an interpreter of traditional Chinese music on the instruments pipa and guzheng (Zheng).

Life

Liu Fang began learning the pipa (Chinese lute) at the age of six and was soon giving public performances as a child prodigy, including a concert for the British Queen during her visit to China. Liu Fang received numerous awards and graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory in 1993. With her move to Montreal in 1996, Liu Fang began an international career with concerts and solo evenings, including at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris and the Philharmonie in Liège, Belgium. She plays traditional music and modern western compositions. In June 2001 she received an award from the "Canada Council for the Arts" and in 2006 she was awarded the French Academie Charles Cros Award, the French "Grammy", the Academy Charles Cros .
