Live search

Live Search was a search engine constructed by Microsoft and its Internet portal MSN and could be found at www.live.com . It was also the successor to Microsoft's earlier Internet search MSN.

The successor to Live Search started on June 1, 2009 under the name Bing . After the domain www.live.com forwarded to the start page of Bing for a while, you can now find the login page for the freemail service Outlook.com there .

Naming

Live Search was the search engine for the Windows Live range .

Search scope

With the search engine, the user could search for words (terms), text excerpts and images in the normal view on the Internet. In addition, search entries could be passed on to the Windows Live services “News” and “Maps” in order to search for terms there.

Since the beginning of 2008, the Live Search homepage has been customizable. The user could display additional elements such as a weather forecast or headlines as well as charts from the areas of music and cinema.

Live Search Academic (previously Windows Live Academic ) and Live Search Books , parallel projects to Google Scholar and Google Books , respectively, were discontinued in May 2008. Microsoft Academic Search was launched in October 2009 .
