The Liverpool crater is an impact crater in Arnhem Land ( Northern Territory ) in northern Australia . It was named after the Liverpool River flowing nearby. Its diameter is 1.6 km. The crater is between 80 and 220 million years old and is therefore classified in the Paleoproterozoic era . The crater can be seen on the surface of the earth. It was discovered in the 1960s.

Meaning for the Aborigines

The resident Yolngu tribe believe that the crater is the nest of a giant catfish .
