Living Greyhawk

Living Greyhawk was a unique, globally consistent pen & paper role-playing game campaign .

Living Greyhawk (LG) was started in 2000 as a global campaign for role-playing players and is operated by the “Roleplaying Gamers Association” (RPGA). All RPG characters that players create for this campaign are created and developed according to established, generally binding rules. At the beginning of the campaign according to Dungeons & Dragons 3.0 and later according to Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 rules.

Based on the areas of the game world Greyhawk , their countries and regions were assigned to countries and regions of the real world.

The world of Greyhawk was taken further by gamers and adventure writers as the campaign progressed. The players and their characters thus determined the fate of the fantasy world Greyhawk.

Most of the adventures for this global campaign were written by members of the campaign themselves. This made the campaign a special form of fan fiction , based on the fantasy world originally devised by Gary Gygax .

The campaign was led by a voluntary body called "The Circle". In addition, each region was looked after by a triad of experienced players and game leaders.

Each player character had one of the assigned regions as their home - often the one in which the player himself lived. The special thing about the "Living" campaign was that a character was playable worldwide. So if a player from Germany traveled to France for a LG game round or LG convention , he could play his character there too.

The adventures for the campaign were written for several different levels of difficulty, so that an adventure could be adapted to the existing player characters. This meant that you could always enter the campaign with a new character - it was quite common for players to have multiple characters in the campaign. However, each player was only allowed to play an adventure once.

Living Greyhawk was discontinued on December 31, 2008 because the fourth edition of the D&D rules was published in June 2008, which would have required a fundamental adaptation of the campaign world due to the many rule changes.

Living Forgotten Realms

The first presentations of the follow-up project Living Forgotten Realms have taken place at various conventions since March 2008. The number of Living Greyhawk regions has been drastically reduced worldwide. Germany became part of the Northern Europe region .
