Liwnyer pig
The Liwnyer pig ( Russian Ливенская , transcribed Liwenskaja ) is a multi-purpose pig breed from Russia .
Breeding history
The breed was developed near the town of Liwny in Oryol Oblast , Russia , by crossing native lop-eared sows with boars of the Large White , Berkshire Pig, and Poland China breeds . NN Korowezkaja was in charge. In 1949 the breed was recognized as a multi-purpose breed.
Characteristics
- Color white or black and white, more rarely red and black
- Head relatively short and broad with a bulging nose
- Ears large, thick and slightly drooping
- The back is broad, straight and slightly arched
- Chest broad and deep

- Rough skin, sometimes with wrinkles

There are 18 boar lines and 46 sow families.
Occurrence
Main breeding areas are the Oblasti Oryol , Lipetsk and Voronezh in Russia . In 1980 the number of purebred Liwnyer pigs was 59,600 animals.
